DUMB
people at my school have a habit of “pearling” . basically, a guy gives a girl a pearl to promise to her that he will eventually give her a diamond, or propose. it’s a relatively big deal, and really dumb. as a measure of how people at my christian school feel about sex, here’s something a friend overheard.
girl: he pearled her.
boy: what does that even mean?
girl: it means that he promises to propose to her someday.
boy: thats dumb, what’s the point?
girl: well, its like a permission slip to have sex
i have so much to say about this. there is a stigma against sex before marriage, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. actually, i think it probably happens around the same amount, but kids here aren’t smart about it, because they can’t talk about it, and do it all so surreptitiously that something is bound to go wrong.
